When our plans for the weekend fell through, Lisa and I decided to look for a race and try to mark state #7 off of our list.  We found this race in Michigan, which is only about a 4 hour drive away and decided to go for it!

What I didn't realize, is that one of my favorite Breweries was located near by! So, we got to spend the afternoon before the race having tasty Founders Beer and a tasty pre-race chili in a bread bowl.  We even got to take a tour of the brewery, which was really cool and came with a nice Founders glass.

The race took place at the Boulder Creek Golf Club where we ran the 5 mile cart path around the course twice.  It was absolutely beautiful and a very nice course.  Mile 2 (and 7) was BRUTAL though...you can see the elevation changes in the map.  There were some pretty steep climbs in there, but Lisa and I fought through the pain :)  It makes so much difference having a partner.

It was also a night race and about 35 degrees, so we bundled up a bit and we shared duty wearing the head lamp that we purchased along with our registration.  It was recommended, but should have been required...it would have been pitch black with no one for a mile if we didn't have one!

It was a fun race though and we ran with some fun people for a couple of miles.  We were totally glad that we did it and really excited to get a 7th state in the books.  The impromptu weekend away with shopping, great food and fun with my girl was just what I needed to.  It was a fantastic trip :)
