Seems like panic to me...

I can understand wanting to come in at a lower price point to ensure more sales, but i'd be willing to bet at least 1 million people would have paid $49.95 for these games. That would be 10 MILLION dollars of additional income in the first month.

I'm really not sure on the reasoning behind this.

Why not wait a couple of months before dropping $10 off the price?

One Response so far.

At Looking Glass, we released British Open Golf through Eidos at $49.99 price point and sold no more than 40,000 copies in the first year of release. Looking Glass then sold the IP to Mindscape, who re-released it at $9.99 and it sold over 700,000 copies. After that, I wondered if more games shouldn't shoot for volume over unit price as a path to profitability.

The $39.95 would personally make me wore willing to buy this game over another X-box title that's $10 more. $10 = sushi roll!
