There has been a lot of uncertantity coming up to the draft with the Browns holding the 3rd pick. For a long time I wondered who we would select out of Joe Thomas, Brady Quinn and Adrian Peterson. As it got closer to the draft, I had hoped we'd get Quinn to be our QB for the next 10 years (something we've sorely needed) but was also content with Thomas to sure up our terrible Offensive Line.
The 3rd pick comes along, and we take Thomas. I felt it was a solid pick, but I still had Quinn in my heart. They even showed pictures of him as a 4 year old wearing a Browns uniform, near where he grew up.
Quinn kept dropping down the draft board since most of the teams in the middle of the draft didn't need a QB. Then my dream came true... at pick 22 the Browns traded up to pick Quinn as well! How often can a team say they got BOTH of the top 3 projected picks that they coveted?
I'm so happy right now.
My boys over at Tiburon already have screenshots of these two in Browns uniforms:

i'm not exagerating when I say that the NFL draft is the sporting event that I get the most excited for each year by far. Yes, this is probably because it's one of the FEW potential high points for a Browns fan each season. I actually spent about 6 hours yesterday (while home sick) watching pre-draft coverage on ESPN. I think the best part is that EVERY NFL team participates and has a chance to truly make their team better.
My wife and son go away for a week...and what do i do? get sick...
so much for my productive evenings, since they've had to be spent in bed trying to feel better.

I have a huge back log of "projects" that I would like to get done...the problem is, the less fun ones need to be finished first.
I have to learn a new database program and then use it to create a whole new system to replace an old Access database I did 5 years ago. Luckily Filemaker is much easier to use...it's just finding the time to learn it and get things going. I'm hoping to use a good chunk of this next week to get things up and running...but its so hard to be motivated to do it when i've worked all day and want to relax.
But! once that's done...i'll then be learning Creative Suite 3 to redo my website and one other site...so that will be fun...er
Then maybe i'll get around to actually painting my Warhammer Wood Elves...

I took my wife and son to the airport today so they can attend her grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary party. They'll be gone for a week, which is the longest I've ever been away from them.
It was much harder on me today than I anticipated. Watching them go through security at the airport and then worrying the rest of the day if they were traveling safely. I'm usually not a worrier at all...so this was weird for me. (they just called and told me they arrived safely)
On a brighter note...I get to spend all day Saturday with my best bud Steve watching the NFL draft!

I just had an unbelievably horrible experience at the local CompUsa store.
The local store was going out of business and had 25-50% off all items. I picked up a copy of Vista for the wife at 40% off (score!) and also wanted to pick up a copy of Pagemaker 7.0 that had a price tag of $134.95 which is a GREAT deal for a full version copy.
The vista copy rung up fine, but the Pagemaker rung up at $400! So the guy went to ask the manager about it and said that it was mis-priced and I'd have to pay $400 if I want it. I told him that the price listed is the price that I'm going to pay, I worked in retail and know for a fact that this is the case. He gets a manager out who I tell the same thing to. As I'm talking to him, someone comes storming out of the office and grabs the copy tears off the price tag, throws it in the near by trash can and says: "It's no longer for sale, Simple as that!"
As he walked away, I said to him "No, it's not as simple as that. The price says $134 and that's what I'm going to pay." He pulls the tag out of the can and shows me that it says on the top it says Originally $579 with 25% off. I told him to look at the bottom which clearly says After all discounts are taken, you pay $134.99, no further discounts.
At this point, the guy gets so angry that I truly, actually thought he was going to punch me. I look at the other cashiers, who looked at me with a stunned expression. The manager decides it best to walk away, and I'm standing there absolutely stunned knowing that I'm completely right in what price I should pay, but I'm completely powerless to do anything more about it. My 2 year old son is sitting there wondering what in the world is going on.
So, we asked the manager's name then my wife thoughtfully grabbed the price tag out of the trash and we headed out to call the corporate offices. Unfortunately they are closed today, so I'll have to deal with them tomorrow. I guess "Ron" figured that since they're going out of business that it doesn't matter how he treats someone.
(FYI...this is a rant + me needing to log what happened so I don't forget anything :)
